Saint-Michel

Part of the Greater Montreal metropolitan area, Saint-Michel is a neighbourhood within Montréal, Quebec.

Transportation

Saint-Michel permits property owners to travel by different modes of transportation. Most houses for sale in this part of Montréal are located in places that are very conducive to people who prefer to travel as pedestrians; most daily needs are very easy to carry out without the use of a car, and a fair number of businesses of different types can be found as well. This neighbourhood is also rather bike-friendly as there are few elevation changes to challenge bicycle riders. With 3 rapid transit stations (D'Iberville Station, Fabre Station and Saint-Michel Station) with access to the Ligne 5 - Bleue, and about 30 nearby bus lines, the public transit service in this neighbourhood is very practical. This part of Montréal is also fairly car friendly. Nearby highways, such as Autoroute Métropolitaine, are very easy to access from any home in Saint-Michel.

Services

A general and a specialty grocery store is always only a very short trip away in Saint-Michel. In addition, a restaurant is typically just around the corner, for example on Rue Jean-Talon, and a small selection of cafes is available as well. When it comes to education, daycares and schools are very convenient to reach without a vehicle from anywhere in Saint-Michel. Families benefit from public and private schools at both the primary and high school level.

Character

Saint-Michel is a good neighbourhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a calm ambience. There is not that much greenery in this part of Montréal; to be more precise, residents will find that the tree canopy coverage for the majority of streets is sub-par. However, accessing public green spaces, like Parc des Hirondelles and Parc Coubertin, is very easy from most locations within the neighbourhood since there are over 50 of them close by for residents to visit. This part of the city is also fairly good for those who prefer a quiet atmosphere, as the streets are reasonably peaceful - however noise can be problematic near the railway line or Autoroute Métropolitaine.

Housing

Small apartment buildings are the main housing type, representing roughly 70% of buildings in Saint-Michel, but duplexes are also present in the housing stock. Around 40% of properties in this neighbourhood were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960. This area offers mainly three bedroom and two bedroom homes. Around 70% of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home and 30% are owners.
