Vanier

Part of the Greater Québec City metropolitan area, Vanier is a neighbourhood within Québec, Quebec.

Transportation

People who appreciate living in a compact community will be pleased with the pedestrian-friendly nature of Vanier; running day-to-day errands is easy without the use of a car, and a fair number of businesses of different types can be found as well. Vanier is also a fairly convenient part of Québec for cyclists. More precisely, bicycle riders do not encounter serious slopes, and there are a fair number of bike lanes. This area is very car friendly. Parking is easy, and most homes for sale are a short drive from the nearest highway, such as Autoroute Laurentienne. However, travelling by public transit is occasionally challenging in Vanier. Thankfully, there are around 30 bus lines crossing the neighbourhood, and most properties are very close to a bus stop.

Services

It is usually an option for property owners in Vanier to do their groceries by walking. Additionally, those who like to dine in restaurants will have a fair number of options, and a limited variety of coffee shops is available as well. As far as education is concerned, schools and daycares are very easy to get to without a car from anywhere in Vanier.

Character

The character of Vanier is exemplified by its slower-paced ambience. This part of the city is reasonably good for those who need a quiet atmosphere, as the streets are quite peaceful - although that is not the case around the railway line, the airport (Héliport de Québec (Sureté du Québec)), Autoroute Laurentienne or Autoroute Félix-Leclerc. Finally, there are about 40 parks close by for residents to relax in, like Parc de la Pointe-aux-Lièvres and Parc Victoria, and they are very well-spread out, which makes them easy to get to.

Housing

Roughly one third of homes in Vanier were constructed between 1960 and 1980, while most of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s. The large percentage of small apartment buildings in the housing stock of this area is an important part of its character. Around 70% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood are occupied by renters while the remainder are occupied by owners. This part of the city offers mainly one bedroom and two bedroom homes.
