Lower West Side
Lower West Side is a neighbourhood within Saint John, New Brunswick, which is located in the Greater Saint John metropolitan area.
Transportation
The car is very often the best way to move around in Lower West Side. It is convenient to park, and most real estate listings are a very short drive from the closest highway. In contrast, commuting by public transit is difficult in Lower West Side. Nonetheless, the neighbourhood is linked by a few bus lines, and bus stops are usually around the corner. It is at times challenging to move around by bicycle in Lower West Side since there are quite a few elevation changes, and the cycling infrastructure is rather limited. Getting around by foot is also not particularly feasible for property owners in this part of the city because few daily errands can be run without the need for a vehicle.
Services
It is a reasonably short distance to get to schools and daycares from anywhere in this part of Saint John. With regards to food, buying one's groceries usually requires the use of a car in Lower West Side. A small selection of restaurants and cafes is available as well.
Character
Lower West Side is an excellent neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a slower-paced atmosphere. Most areas in this part of the city are very quiet, as the streets tend to be especially tranquil. Lastly, it is easy to reach parks in the neighbourhood since there are approximately 20 of them close by for residents to relax in.
Housing
In Lower West Side, roughly 40% of dwellings are small apartment buildings, while duplexes and single detached homes are also present in the housing stock. This part of the city offers mainly two bedroom and three bedroom homes. About 55% of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home and 45% are owners. This area experienced its biggest construction boom pre-1960, so most of the available housing stock is from this era.
