Tantallon

The community of Tantallon is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is situated in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

This part of Halifax is especially car friendly. It is very convenient to come across a parking spot. Commuting by bicycle is occasionally challenging in this community because there is a considerable amount of hills, and the cycling network is quite poor. This area is also not very well-suited for pedestrians because carrying out daily needs is very difficult without a car.

Services

It is challenging to reach the closest supermarket without the need to get in a vehicle in this community. A limited selection of restaurants is available in this community as well. As far as education is concerned, there are only a very small number of primary schools in Tantallon and thus they can be a very long walk away. Additionally, this area does not contain any high schools. Furthermore, daycares are not numerous and thus tend to require a very long distance to get to.

Character

Tantallon is a wonderful community to buy a house in for those who prefer a relaxed atmosphere. Tantallon is excellent for those who like quiet surroundings, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic. Parks are spread out sporadically, resulting in them being occasionally difficult to access from the majority of locations within this area. Despite that, there are approximately 10 public green spaces nearby for residents to enjoy, including St. Margaret's Bay Elementary School Park.

Housing

The substantial proportion of single detached homes in the housing stock of Tantallon is an important part of its character. This community is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy nearly 95% of the dwellings in Tantallon and the rest are rented. Roughly one quarter of homes in this area were built following the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
