West Shore

West Shore is a neighbourhood within Pickering, Ontario, which is situated in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

West Shore is especially car friendly. It is a short drive to the closest highway, such as Highway 401, from any home in West Shore, and finding a place to park is easy. On the other hand, commuting by transit can be challenging in this part of the city due to the low service level. Nevertheless, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and bus stops are not very far-removed from most houses. A majority of the homes for sale in this area are located in places that are not particularly well-suited for people who prefer to get around as pedestrians since few daily errands can be run without a car. In contrast, West Shore is moderately appropriate for cycling.

Services

Reaching the nearest grocery store on foot is an option for some, but not all, property owners in West Shore. A limited variety of restaurants and cafes is available as well. When it comes to education, daycares and primary schools are especially easy to reach as a pedestrian from any location in West Shore. In contrast, it can be very hard to access high schools by foot. At the primary level, there are both public and private schools.

Character

West Shore offers a slower-paced atmosphere and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time in green spaces. This part of Pickering is very quiet overall, as the streets are very peaceful - although that is not the case around Highway 401 or one of the railway lines. Finally, it is easy to get to public green spaces from the majority of locations in the neighbourhood and there are approximately 20 of them nearby for residents to check out.

Housing

In West Shore, many dwellings are single detached homes, and the rest of the houses are mainly duplexes. A majority of the housing growth in this neighbourhood happened in the 1960s and 1970s. This part of Pickering is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. About 90% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas the remainder are renters.
