Rural Markham

Part of the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area, Rural Markham is a neighbourhood within Markham, Ontario.

Transportation

Cars are a very good medium of transportation in Rural Markham. It is easy to park. On the other hand, this area is not very transit friendly. Thankfully, the neighbourhood is connected by around 10 bus lines, and most residences are very close to a bus stop. This part of the city is fairly cycling-friendly as the cycling network is moderately well-developed. It is occasionally difficult for pedestrians to move around in Rural Markham since few daily errands can be run without needing to resort to a car.

Services

In most, if not all, cases, a vehicle is required to do groceries. Nevertheless, pharmacies are typically easy to access on foot and supply some basic food items. Residents are served by a few restaurants and cafes as well. With regards to education, parents and their children will find that wherever their property is located in Rural Markham, primary schools are close by. However, there are no high schools in this area.

Character

Home buyers who prefer a calm atmosphere will enjoy Rural Markham. This part of the city is quiet, as noise from the streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue - although that is not the case close to one of the railway lines, Highway 407 or the airport (Markham Airport). Lastly, although Rural Markham is not home to any green spaces, parks are badly-spread out in nearby neighbourhoods, which makes it easy to reach them.

Housing

Around three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood own their home while the rest are renters. Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing about two thirds of dwellings in this area, while the remainder are mainly townhouses. This part of the city experienced its biggest building boom after the year 2000, so most of the available housing is from this era. This part of Markham also has quite a good variety of unit sizes; however this neighbourhood is especially good for those looking for four or more bedroom homes.
