North Gower

The neighbourhood of North Gower can be found in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, which is situated in the Ottawa - Gatineau metropolitan area.

Transportation

Cars are an excellent transportation option in this part of the city. It is very easy to find a place to park. On the other hand, North Gower is not very transit friendly. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and most houses are very close to a bus stop. This neighbourhood is not very cycling-friendly as there are a fair number of elevation changes, and there are very few bike lanes. It is also very impractical for pedestrians to navigate North Gower since almost no daily needs can be carried out without a vehicle.

Services

Shopping for one's groceries usually requires the use of a car in North Gower. In terms of education, primary schools are not especially abundant in this part of the city, and consequently often beyond walking distance, and there are no high schools. In addition, daycares are not numerous and accordingly may require a very long distance to get to. Parents can choose between public and private elementary schools.

Character

The character of North Gower is exemplified by its calm environment. It is easy to reach public green spaces from the majority of locations in the neighbourhood, since there are approximately 20 of them nearby for residents to discover and most properties have a park that is very easy to access. This neighbourhood is also good for those who enjoy a quiet atmosphere, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour - although there are still several noisier sections, especially around the airport (Rideau Valley Air Park) or Highway 416.

Housing

Homeowners occupy nearly 90% of the dwellings in North Gower and the rest are rented. The predominant housing types in this part of the city are single detached homes and row houses. Around 30% of properties in this neighbourhood were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
