Fort Erie is a community within Fort Erie, Ontario, which is situated in the St. Catharines - Niagara metropolitan area.

Transportation

The car is usually the best means of transportation in Fort Erie. Parking is generally easy, and most real estate listings are a short drive from the closest highway, such as Queen Elizabeth Way. Walking is not very feasible for residents in Fort Erie because running daily errands is inconvenient without the use of a vehicle. Fort Erie is also not particularly appropriate for biking since the bicycling network is not very comprehensive. Nonetheless, there are a limited number of hills.

Services

In all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is required to purchase groceries. Nevertheless, it is generally a reasonably short stroll to the nearest pharmacy, which can supply some staple foods. There are also a few opportunities for those who appreciate close by restaurants. With respect to education, in this area, parents and their children will typically be able to get to primary schools by walking. However, high schools are not especially abundant and consequently may require an extended distance to get to. At the primary level, there are both public and private schools.

Character

Fort Erie is a fairly good community to buy a house in for those who prefer a relaxed ambience. Fort Erie is quiet overall, as there are low levels of noise from traffic - however some parts can be quite noisy, especially near one of the 2 airports (Fort Erie Airport,Fort Erie (Eurocopter Canada) Heliport), the railway line or Queen Elizabeth Way.

Housing

Homeowners occupy around 70% of the properties in the community and 30% are rented. In this community, roughly 70% of buildings are single detached homes, but small apartment buildings are also present in the housing stock. About half of properties in this community were constructed pre-1960, while many of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 2000s.
