Located within the St. Catharines - Niagara metropolitan area, Port Dalhousie is a neighbourhood in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Transportation

Cars are a great medium of transportation in Port Dalhousie. It is a reasonably short drive to the closest highway, such as Queen Elizabeth Way, from any home in this part of the city, and it is especially convenient to come across a parking spot. On the other hand, commuting by public transit is difficult in Port Dalhousie. Nonetheless, the neighbourhood is connected by a few bus lines, and bus stops are ordinarily around the corner. Port Dalhousie is not especially bike-friendly because the cycling network is not particularly comprehensive, and cyclists are faced with a significant amount of hills. It is also difficult for pedestrians to navigate this part of St. Catharines because meeting day-to-day needs is challenging without a vehicle.

Services

In all but a very small number of cases, a car is needed in Port Dalhousie to access the closest supermarket. Residents of this part of the city benefit from a few restaurants. With respect to education, parents and their children will welcome that wherever their property is located in Port Dalhousie, both primary and secondary schools are nearby. Families are served by public and private elementary schools. However, it can be very difficult to get to daycares as a pedestrian.

Character

Port Dalhousie offers a slower-paced environment and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time in green spaces. There are about 10 parks nearby for residents to check out and they are very well-distributed, making it easy to get to them. This area is also especially quiet, as the streets are usually very peaceful.

Housing

In Port Dalhousie, the vast majority of buildings are single detached homes, while the rest are mainly small apartment buildings. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Roughly 85% of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and 15% are rented. About one third of properties in this neighbourhood were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
