Haddington Island is a rare island offering located just offshore from Port McNeill on Vancouver Island's north coast. Less than 3 miles and only a 12 minute boat ride, from the public marina in Port McNeil, the island is in protected waters situated between Port McNeill, Sointula and Alert Bay. Haddington offers the ultimate privacy with incredible accessibility. A level and previously cleared area comprising several acres offers an excellent building sites with walk-on access to a beautiful and gentle beach that also offers excellent views towards McNeill and Vancouver Island. The beach is the perfect place to launch a boat or watch late summer sunsets. This was the site of the camp and cook-house from the time the island had a thriving and active stone quarry. Nearby, there is also a concrete cistern fed by crystal clear, fresh spring water that reportedly flows year - round. A network of older roads and trails provides good access to the interior of the island and the stone quarry located on the southwest quadrant of the island. Haddington Island Stone has been well known by stone masons in Vancouver and Victoria for over 100 years. The stone is a very fine blue /grey volcanic andesite that is excellent for carving and sculpture and has supplied over 60 buildings including some of Vancouver and Victoria's most well - known building facades such as the Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver City Hall, the Hotel Vancouver, the Royal Bank Building at Hastings and Granville in downtown Vancouver and the Parliament Buildings and famous Empress Hotel in British Columbia's capital city of Victoria. The quarry was revived in recent years but is currently dormant. It could easily be revived given the potential supply if high quality stone remaining.
